They provided most of the hardware for Catalina boats.

I talked to Garhauer today and like their help. The tech has a 36 Catalina and I will be getting the RV 20-1SL. They have a good price but with shipping ,I can get it at a better price thru Fisheries Supply in Seattle since we have a account with them,of course I will have to pay sales tax.Since Garhauer does so many 36 Cats you do not have to sent any measurements like they say in the order form

Hi,
i installed some 15 years ago on my MKI, a spinlock rigid boom vang. So far no problem.

I have a rigid boom vang but it will not hold the boom up. Are there different types? It came with the boat.

Knot,
I remember being told by Garhauer (I assume you have an OEM Garhauer adjustable vang?) that if the vang is kept in the compressed position for extended periods of time (years?), then the internal spring can lose its "spring". I'd give a call to Garhauer and explain your situation. I'm pretty sure they can send you a replacement spring to fit inside the vang.

I wrote an article for the July 2009 Jibsheet (on this site under Members -> Jibsheet Archives) that shows how I installed that model boom vang. Please note that the picture that shows the plate attached to the boom is INCORRECT. The plate needs to have the tang pointing toward the mast. I have corrected it on my boat, but never updated the picture.
