Water leak when motoring - from behind bulkhead with trash can

Is hen motoring, I have a water leak that is coming from the bulkhead where the garbage can is mounted I the galley.  It starts pooling on the valley floor.  It was also warm and I think it's salt water.

i have to clear everything out to get back there.  Looking to see if anyone has encounter something like this.  It's not the water strainer or PSS seal which I first suspected.  It's not the engine as therrs just a little water down there.  Not sure what would only leak through the bottom of the bulkhead.

Thanks for any input.

Check your aqua lift muffler, I bet you'll find your water source there.

Or could be in the water injection line someplace.... perhaps the vacuum breaker?

I had the same thing happen. Turned out to be a crack in the nipple on the exhaust riser where the saltwater coming out of the heat exchanger enters the riser.  A new riser was the fix.

Thanks for the replies.  They were dead on and it's the exhaust riser leaking at the elbow.

Next question, where did you buy yours?  I live by the Catalina factory and see Catalina Direct also sells them.

I ordered a exhaust riser directly from Catalina but have lately found inquiries on parts to go unanswered. Catalina direct has very good customer service.

My riser had an invisible crack at the weld that leaked as you describe.  I removed it and had it welded.   $10 bucks and has worked fine since.   Note that my boat has been in fresh/brackish water and the riser was completely clear of any scaling or other problems.

Was hoping to get it from the factory but was in a hurry as I'm prepping the boat for a two week trip in May.  It will be here Friday.

This forum is fantastic, put me right on top of the problem immediately.

Thanks

Interesting, as my 1999 is almost the same age as yours - noticed rust on top of the aqua-lift while changing the heat exchanger zinc last week.  Rusting from the injector 'nipple' weld, so thought I'd better order the riser from Cat Direct now, even though there is no water leak yet...
Seems like I have to wait 3 - 4 weeks  You must have got the last one in stock!

Yes, it was the last one in stock.  That's exactly where mine died, at the nipple.

good news is that it fit perfectly.  Ran my boat up to get the bottom painted and it smoked ... A lot.  Might have been a little too liberal with the anti-seize.

great folks at catalina direct.

I had a similar leak at exactly the same location behind the bulkhead by the trash container.
My leak originated from a loose hose clamp not properly tightened after I removed, boiled out, and replaced the heat exchanger at the rear of the engine.
