Dutchmen Boom brake

I just added a Dutchmen Boom brake to Island Girl.  If anyone is interested on the install I can take some pictures. I have only one day sail with it installed. I feel like I finally have some control. I single hand a lot. Now when I go fwd I can lock the boom!

Hey Chuck, great opportunity to try adding a tech article to the main website.

On the home page of the main site, right side part way down a link is there to "Add Content".  Click that, next page will show the content types you can create, select "Technical Article".  Then just fill in the blanks, add pictures and attachments if necessary.

At the bottom left there are a group of tabs, the only one you need to deal with there is the last one "Publishing Options".  Click on that one and set the "Moderation" field to "Needs Review".  That will put it in the queue for a tech editor to review it and publish it.  Once approved it will show up on the home page of the main site.

I've been to the boat twice, both times the sailing was to good to pass up. I never got around to take the pics. I'm headed to the boat Sat for a work day.  I will try to take some pics.

Side note: I have been playing with the brake and it's working out well. It takes a little trial and error to get it dialed in. It's just another control line to learn about.

Chuck

how did you attach it to the chainplate?  No concerns with a lateral pull on it as opposed to vertical?

Yes, I used a shackle on both aft Chainplates. Many other C 36's are rigged the same way. Dutchmen recommends chainplates, toe rail or a pad eye.. The load doesn't same too bad. Time will tell
Getting the arc to be just right is the real trick.I had the bracket made for the boom.  The only thing that bugs me is that the line rides the SS hand rail. The line doesn't move, but it still rides a little.
I really like so far.
I mounted the clutch so I could use the Main winch or even the cabin top. You don't really need a winch unless you want to totally stop the boom.
I find myself jibing more than ever. Going fwd just feels safer. At anchor the boom is steady and not dancing around. Just a new tool to play with.
