Anyone removed an opening cabin port?????

Wondering if anyone has removed one of the opening ports in the cabin?  Thinking of removing mine
#1474 1995, to do a complete rebedding job. I know CY uses a bedding tape to seal port against hull, wondering what width tape they used.  Any insight would be helpful.

Chick,
I'm wondering if you are thinking of pulling the whole window and frame because the window leaks and you know its the bedding. My boat is a 1990 and it leaked (the window) and I thought the same thing. Read many comments in the forum on the subject and came across one that stated to just pull the rubber seal , clean it, spray with "Divers silicone" and reinstall the rubber gasket. Really never had a leak since. Every couple of years repeated the process. So that was about 10 years ago. About 2 years ago I was tired of the crazed acrylic windows and ordered replacements from Catalina Direct (the offering slightly thicker than original) this worked out well and much less expensive than replacing the complete window, also order the newer version of screen for them as well.

Chic - you might try emailing Lemar directly.  They have been very helpful in detemining the correct size of the portlight and screen replacement and the leaking issue.

Guys, thanks for response, need to replace tried everything mentioned plus much more and still leaks, thought it is the bedding tape on hull, just wondering about others experiences with removal.

I haven't removed an opening port light but I have some additional port lights that I bought at a salvage yard if you would like to see the parts.

I am am considering adding an opening port light in the V berth over the hanging locker. I spoke with Gerry Douglas a few months ago and he indicated that there was no reason that could not be done.

I haven't gotten around to it yet, on my last trip to the boat I replaced all the lenses (lights) in the hatches...time consuming but very rewarding.

If you would like to see the parts of an opening port light, le me know, I'll send you some pics.... basically the outer frame and an inner retainer and the trim.
