Knot for Halyard

I just purchased new line for Main halyard. I'm wondering what knot other sailors recommend to tie to shackle for halyard. Currently I have a bowline, but I am looking at a halyard knot at animated knots and wondering if it may be better.

Any opinions appreciated.

Why not splice it on?

I've never spiced anything myself, no Idea how. Can it be done with braided line?

Splicing double braid is a little tricky and time consuming and you need some fids. It's worth taking the time to learn though.

P.S. Practice on a scrap if you decide to try it.

McCartyJ is right. A shackle inside an eye splice would be best.
It is well worth learning how to splice your own braided lines - it's not that hard at all to learn, really. "Practice makes perfect"...

I'm going to give the eye splice a try. It looks do-able, but I will practice. Apparently the strength of the splice is much better than any knot.

Peter,

I has hesitant to splice double braid but I watched videos and decided to give it a try.  I used this video to help me through the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UghIS9xdiDw . I like 'talkies' :-) My approach was find a  video that you understand and give it a try.

Here's a picture of my halyard and shackle splice:

Hey Ralph - looks great; and you now have a skill that you will be able to use in countless ways around the boat!
Cheers;
