I believe I have the standard ST50, which lights up, but does not appear to be working correctly.
A quick look up to the top of the mast determines that the wind pointy thing is stuck in one position, and the spinny thing isn't spinning.
I hiked the mast yesterday and these units were indeed very frozen. They are both mounted on a rod which is easily unscrewed from the base. I removed the mounting rod and units and hosed them down with McLube. They started to move a little bit, but I came to the conclusion that this part of the system will have to be replaced.
When I got back down I looked back up, and the spinny thing was now spinning and pointy thing appeared to be pointing a little.
I looked at gauge and it was now registering direction, but not wind speed.
I am going to have to replace the top unit and wondering if this is a generic unit or an actual Raymarine unit?

These are indeed Raymarine-only transducer units; which Raymarine has apparently made obsolete. ST60 units are very similar, but apparently not compatible. You may find used replacements on E-bay; or might be able to get a marine electronics rebuild on them, since the wind cups are not 'broken', just seized.
Good luck Blair - and let us all know the result.

Seized, yep that's the right word.
Thanks for the advice. It looks like I am on a part search now.

So, I'm opening this thread back up because my ST50 wind speed indicator is not spinning, and having removed it and looking and feeling the armature I have determined that the bearings need replacing. Has anyone ever done this, and or bought the bearings from the guy in GB that has them on EBay? I have found some directions through Google for removing the bearings, but not totally comprehensible for my feeble brain. Thus, I need more info before I pay good $$ for small parts with no directions that still won't get the job done.
Second part.-- Will the ST60 transducer work on the ST50 connection? I have found conflicting reports here and nothing has been definitive. Any responses will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Bill

Bill, I am having the same issue with my wind indicator. Did you ever find a fix.

Jules, I had the yard man go up my mast and take the transducer off and lower it down to me. I carefully pulled the cup mount apart, made sure there was no dirt inside, and then sprayed with electronic cleaner, and put back together. I had no Idea that that would fix anything. However, the cups began to spin somewhat on my trip back to the slip very intermitently which gave hope. The next week I came back to the boat and everything worked. The wind speed is still working after a whole summer so I must have done something right. There are instructions on line ( Google search ST50 wind) that tell you how to pull those things apart to replace the electronics or to troubleshoot. Read them, and they will give you a good understanding of the inner workings. Good luck.

Email me off line at chiclasser1@yahoo.com. I have a guy in England that will rebuild your transducer. I had same problem last yr, sent to him for a rebuild over winter and works like new.
