Found this in the boxes of tools and parts left on the boat boat by the PO. If you look at the bottom, it has a bit of a notch from whatever it used on. Anybody know what this thing is used for???

PS The bar appears to be made out of aluminum, is about 1/4 inch thick, and about a foot long.

Just taking a stab at what I can see. If that is a piece of line on the end I am guessing it is for your windlass up front if you have one. You say it is about 1/4 thick. Is it about a inch to a inch and quarter wide?

Its to allow you to manually use the windless should your power to it fail. I've never used mine but as I recall from reading the windless lit, there are some things you have to do to use it. I think the bar manually releases the windless brake by going into a slot on the windless and acting as a lever.
