Following spring commissioning, the breaker on my water heater is tripping. Worked pretty much OK last week, but tripped twice. Today, it trips immediately and won't make hot water.
Only thing I can think of is a bad heater element. Any other ideas??
Thanks..!

Could also be a problem in the wiring from the panel to the heat exchanger (e.g., a short caused by water).

Ours did that when we got the boat and it was the thermostat that was bad, electrically and mechanically.
Thanks; I actually have a thermostat on hand, so I'll try that first. The heater did start working again after resetting the breaker twice, so I guess it's not the element. I'll check the wiring too, just to be sure, but everything looked clean with no corrosion (fresh water boat).
Of course, just when I thought I'd chased every last leak, the plastic fitting unscrewed itself from the hot water faucet's metal fitting. How that's even possible is beyond me. I think it's in the most inaccessible place on the boat, too. Fun.

Just to close this out; I replaced the thermostat and the breaker has not tripped since. Hopefully, that'll be the end of it.!
