For me, it's getting rid of those &@%$#$ bolts that are inserted from the rear. That makes it such a PITA to change impellers compared to having the plate/bolts on the front like the Oberdorfer. Whatever engineer thought that was a good idea obviously never had to service the impeller. The Sherwood pump does what it's supposed to do, so it would be just fine except for those lousy bolts.

Great post - thanks very much indeed. I am contemplating doing the conversion as my Sherwood pump is now leaking after less than 200 hours.

One question - do the existing 1/2 inch elbows in the Sherwood screw into the new Oberdorfer body.

One of the screws on my Sherwood cover was stripped, so someone drilled the hole all the way threw the part and put a bolt, washer and nut in the through hole with the head in front. It has worked fine and is easier to change. The other two screws are still the originals accessed from the rear. It is tempting to do that with the other two screws.

Yes - the elbows from the Sherwood pump can be transferred to the Oberdorfer N202M-16 since it also has 1/2" NPT connections. For mine I moved the output elbow - but on the input side I saved money by going to a hardware store.
