Engine Model

Caprice has hull # 1050, 1990 model year. The engine is a M-35 with no letters after the number. I believe my engine is 30 hp and the M35B is 35 hp. My question is what is the difference between the M35, M35A and M35B engines.

I believe the M35 and M35A are based on the same block, they have the same displacement and bore/stroke and share a lot of parts according to the manuals I found. I've never been able to find out what the differences are. But the M35B is a totally different block, has more cubes and more horsepower.

And the M35B seems to have that interesting thing about not being able to change the alternator belt without removing a cooling hose?

They also use different freshwater pumps. Don't ask me how I know this.:(
