Where to locate second sonar transducer?

Hello,

I have a factory installed depth transducer (Autohelm ST50) that is located under the forward-most cabinet in the front cabin (behind the drawer).

I want to install a second sonar transducer to go with my Garmin GPS unit.

My first guess is to not install it next to the current transducer.

What would be the best place to install a second sonar transducer?

Looking around, it seems like the little panel in the aft cabin (on the bed, next to the starboard water tank) might be suitable. It is about 24" from the engine.

What would you all recommend?

Thanks!

We have a second transducer just aft and to port of the engine & transmission, beside our water lift muffler. This one is a fish finder transducer, glued onto the hull. It seems to work well despite the hull being 'Coremat' not solid glass. If you're a solid hull 'gluing' with epoxy seems to work well, and one less hole!

Hope it goes well :)

Rick, I did the same thing your wanting to do in the spring of 09. Where ours went was under the galley sink as there was already an old transducer there. What we experienced though is when in water over 40 feet the garmin transducer we installed was not reliable as it was all over the place. So I had to rely on the forward one which we always do. The 2nd one was mainly for fish. It worked well for sensing fish at any depth. Just a fyi.
