Replacing/Repairing Outer Track on Mark 1

I have a 1987 built Mark I Catalina. I was "t-boned" by an errant catamarand which did little damage, except a chip in the outer port track about 4 ft. aft from it's start. This chip is perhaps 4" long by 1/2" wide. The cars will still go over this area, so the main problem is the unsightlyness.

In looking around, there doesn't seem to be any replacement track available that is the length we need. We had thought about replacing just the damaged area, or maybe the front 4ft. We haven't found track of the same design as the original, and even if we found new stuff, it probably wouldn't match the color of the old weathered track.

I guess I am about to give up and live with this damage, unless someone has a better idea.

Have you tried Garhauer?

Try some boat yards between Texas and Alabama. Between Katrina, Rita and Ike there is bound to be a Cat36 with the part you need. And it may very well already be weathered for you. ;)

I would certainly second what Bill said. If you have a boatyard in your area or a marine consignments shop you could save hundreds of dollars. There is a small place near where we moor our boat in Oriental, NC that is an interesting place. I had purchassed and sold a lot of extraneous nautical equipment there. In fact, let me give you his information. The name of the shop is Marine Consignment of Oriental, ask for Andy when you call and his number is 252/249.3222 . I am hoping that HIS insurance is paying for this damage!

Two very good ideas that we haven't thought of. And yes, the other guy is paying for the damage (limited and reluctantly).
