exhaust hose routing

I am the new owner of a 36 built in 1988.  One of the items noted on the pre-purchase survey was the exhaust hose.  It has cracks and needs to be replaced.  I have removed the mattress and the "shelf" from the aft cabin/berth, and I'm trying to figure out how the hose gets from the muffler to the transom lazarette.

From the muffler, it goes to the port side, and I can open the sliding doors there and see it going up and into a hole.  I expected that this hole would go into the port side cockpit lazarette, but I can't see the hose there!  I also can't see where the hose is entering the transom lazarette.

Can anyone help solve this mystery?  I will take some pictures the next time I am on the boat.

Thanks!

I have replaced my 12 feet exhaust hose on my 1999. It does not go through the lazarett. View it or follow it from the transom side and see wheteit goes. It was an easy job for me.
