Hi Everyone,
I had a bad smell I couldn't track down until this weekend. I found that the bolts holding the macerator pump together were coroded and brken off so sewage was leaking out the bolt holes. I looked on Westmarine and this seems to be a very common complaint with the jabsco pumps with some people saying they didn't even last a season. I'm on the Chesapeake and have a pump out at the Marina. I never use macerator pump. Is there any reason to have it if so many people say they are junk or can I bypass the hole thing and connect the deck pump out directly to the tank?
Thanks for any insite.

My used 1994 C36 came with a Jabsco macerator installed. I've had the boat for three years with no issues, all of my overnight cruises take me outside the limit for discharging overboard on the Gulf of Mexico, so I use my macerator fairly frequently and almost never need to pump out at the marina. I have both the deck connection to pump out using the marina's vacuume system or I can use my macerator when outside the limit. I much prefer the macerator. Its so much easier and more sanitary. I wouldn't be without it. If you spend almost all of your nights aboard at a pumpout equipped marina, you could do without a macerator. But I wouldn't. Your boat, your choice as they say.

I would consider resale value also. It's never wise to part with standard equipment.

The first time your tank is full and you are now where near a pump out and the admiral needs to use the facilities...... you will wish you had that macerator. Always expect the unexpected.

In 39 years I only purchased 3 jabso macerator pumps for the reasons you stated, but do not believe that is very bad?
