How to change the thermostat on a Universal 21hp?

Hi, everyone.

My engine slowly overheats, approaching 200 degrees F after about 45 minutes at cruising speed. If I back down the power, it comes back into normal temp range.

Whether or not this is related, as a first step to narrow the problem, we are thinking that we should change out the thermostat, since we don't know how many years the current one has been in service.

How do you do this? Is it in the engine manual? Any tricks or got'chas?

Ben, the only gotcha is to buy it from a Kubota tractor dealer and not from Universal. See this: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,3133.0.html

It''s easy to do, just unscrew the two bolts, lift up, take off the old gasket, and replace.

If I were you, I'd check out the cleanliness of the heat exchanger, probably first.

We also replaced the old 2 inch HX with a 3 incher. Check the inlet port to the HX from the raw water pump, it also gets gunked up first.
