I am planning to install a second ("down") foot switch for my windlass. I'll have to remove the forward bulkhead (the one just ahead of the v-berth) to get to the wiring. Looking at it, it seems that there is a fair bit of work removing it. I was thinking of cutting an access hole in this bulkhead after I remove it and bolting a piece of plywood behind it. That way, if I ever need to get back in there, I can just remove the plywood, rather than remove the entire bulkhead. This bulkhead is covered by a mirror, so it wouldn't be visible. Is there any structural or other reason I shouldn't do this?

On our 1990 it is basically a cover. Ours has 7 screws and it comes out so you I have total access to the windlass and wiring. Ours is not structural at all.
