Weaver snap davit install

Looking at davit systems, I ran across this install of the weaver snap davits on a Catalina 320:

I'm tempted by this approach, as I'd like to avoid having the yard-arms of regular davits permanently attached.  Has anyone else here used the snap davits?  More importantly, does anyone see any issues with trying this install on our C36's?  I like that with the slide-up mechanism, you can lift the dinghy high enough to avoid the 'dragging in the water while heeled' issue that other folks have had with the standard weaver snaps...

Josh,
Interesting install. My one comment is that the C320 owner should NOT have used 3M5200. It's the feeling of many that 5200 should only be used on hull-to-deck joints, and should almost require a boat builder's certificate to purchase.  Also, are the hinges on the aft lockers up to the task of supporting the dinghy?

This installation on the C320 makes better sense than the Weaver snap davits I installed on my swim platform. Once the C320's dinghy has been tilted up, apparently one can pull the handles to raise the dink farther out of the water. My snap davits are swim platform height, and when the dink is tilted up one of the tubes tends to drag in the water.

How would you lift the dinghy on the fittings to the elevated position?

That's easy.  You tie a short line to the opposite side and pull; it will pivot up easily.  We do that when flipping our dink onto the swim platform.

(We do find, like Larry, that this is not a useful way to carry the dink while underway unless motoring or running before the wind, as one end of the dink will drag in the water if the ship is heeled)

No, I didn't mean how to flip the dinghy upright, but how to lift the whole thing to the upper position on the adjustable bracket. ??

This sounds very interesting to me.  I wonder if a few are interested, maybe we can go to Weaver for a bulk discount?

Well, I think I'm certainly going to give it a go.  I've got an email into Weaver to ask them about the setup and whether they think it would work for a C36, so when I hear back, I'll let you all know what they say.

As regards lifting the dingy up, you probably would either manhandle it, getting your workout for the day, or maybe could think about putting a ring on the 'far' side of the dingy, which you could attach to the mainsheet halyard and crank it up that way until you could set the slides.

..I'll keep the board posted as I foray further into the concept...

Really, we have a benetesu in our marina with a setup similar to that, and might give en away the system according to him is fraught with problems.  A bear to lift up, with a Bimini, and in anything but calm seas and light wind he is always concerned with losing the dink as it drags in the water.  As a result he is storing it on his deck more and more.  With this knowledge in hand I just ordered davits from Garhauer and they are custom making me a locking and easily removable center section.  I can pop center section easily off and fold or remove davits when not needed.  In addition since we have a full enclosure I am having the swim ladder cut into 2 sections with a pin in joining design so with a simple removal of the pins the top section above the helm seat can be removed to access the swim platform. Won't be installed for a while but when done I can post some pictures.  The weaver davits were designed for power boats, and although enticing and cheap they should be left to the power boaters.
