I think the stuffing box of my rudder shaft needs tightening. There are greenish corrosion marks on its side. How do you tighten it?

Usually you will notice water running down the outside of the fiberglass housing and pooling in the well just aft of the rudder. I would empty this well and then monitor if water is showing up there (btw-water can also come down the shaft housing if the stainless steel emergency rudder cap is leaking).
The stuffing housing is bronze - so turning green is normal. To tighten the stuffing just tighten the 4 bolts around the bronze collar...

I installed new flax. This can be done while in water.

To install the flax on the rudder shaft - remove the screws holding the ring down and lift. Remove existing flax, insert a ring of Lana-cote and reinstall new flax. Place the ring back with screws.
