Rudder Post Corrosion

During this winters haul-out, I noticed some play in my rudder, not enough to be concerned with, however, I did notice some not so pretty corrosion in the rudder post behind the spacer where the rudder post goes into the tube. I have attached some pics. Anyone have any ideas of the cause or fix?

It is pitting corrosion and is common on stainless or monel that is being covered by washers, nuts, plates etc. and is often associated with low oxygen levels caused by being thusly covered.

The solution is to protect the metal with a sacrificial zinc anode or find a way to get aerated water to flow over the surface of the rudder post.
