Hi, All.
Here's the idea:
I have a M25 with the Oberdorfer N202M-15 pump conversion on it along with the Globe, blue "Run Dry" impeller, and one thing that has always worried me is to have a raw-water pump obstruction or impeller failure and to get an overheat scenario.
To mitigate against this, I wondered if it would be possible to figure out the pump pressure and then install very low pressure default-open switch in the burp hole of the pump body and then to a gauge and/or alarm.
And then in theory, if I left the valve closed, or some other failure or obstruction, I could have a separate alarm to indicate low pressure long before an overheat situation.
Has anyone ever measured the output pressure of the Oberdorfer N202M-15 raw water pump at cruise and/or idle speed?
Or the similar Sherwood pump?
What are some observations or challenges or here?
What about the feasibility of this?
IS there utility here?
Thanks in advance.

I installed one of the readily available raw water alarms which I installed between the filter and the pump. It was easy to adjust it to the flow of my pump. It readily senses stuff in the filter but certainly would sense decreased flow down stream. I also installed a user adjustable temp alarm on the coolant system and set it to 190 degrees as my thermostat is 160 degrees. That give me a heads up well before coolant starts to boil off.

I'm guessing your sw works on flow? Do you have a brand name that you like?

Mitch,
I think a much easier solution is a high temp alarm which senses temps on the exhaust hose, just after the riser. I bought one from Borel Mfg for about $60.

I didn't want the whole display and alarm, as the sensor can easily be wired into the existing temp alarm. It's designed to go off well before an overheating problem. You have to call the factory to order just the sensor. The website shows only the complete systems. Hope this helps.
