Pawl for factory installed windlass

I have the standard Maxwell VC-700 horizontally mounted windlass. We've upgraded the motor on this and it's now a "beast of a puller" and doesn't even blink when hauling our 150ft of all-chain ground tackle.

The old motor was inundated with gearbox grease when the seal failed and then slowly developed congestive heart failure.

Back to the "beast"... What's now happening is that the chain wraps round the gypsy at times. i.e. effectively creating an over-wind.

My brother, Raymond, (owns marine maintenance biz in Vancouver, BC) suggests I add a certified swivel on the chain, but also recommended I get a pawl mounted on the gypsy to "scrape" the chain off while hauling.

Has anyone got a pawl on their windlasses mounted in this configuration?

It seems to me the stock pawl might only work in the vertical mount configuration.

Wondering if I may need to get something custom made?
