Oberdorfer Pump - Bulk Purchase

We now have 4 members who are interested in purchasing an Oberdorfer raw water pump to replace the original Sherwood...
Member Mark Kozy (Username " iamav56") believes that he can get us a significantly lower price by bulk purchase.
Any other takers??

Jemni - yes it fits M35B - I bought one and modified it. I have "how to" images and website and I will send it to you if you would like. In addition to the pump you need to buy brass elbows for input and out put side and you can buy them at Home Depot. I have the part numbers and images listed on the CD. Volume of water is the same. I also painted it with black Rustoleum paint and replaced the screws with Allen head screws.

I have contacted the vendor, they are contacting their supplier to see if there is a quantity break in our future. I believe there are now 5 persons interested in this pump plus Howlin and myself.

Would each person who is interested in the group purchase please send me a personal message with your Full name, address and phone number.

Eventually, I would hope to set something up with the vendor that would allow C36IA members to order direct at a really good price.

Thanks,

Mark

Sounds like 8 total so far - I believe Mark will be ordering 10.

I recently obtained an Oberdorfer at a good price and had the modifications completed by our local mechanic. Not on the boat yet as I have a few Sherwoods, new and rebuilt, as spares. I doubt the supplier is going to make the modifications, which would be up to the purchasers. There was an attempt on the email list during the past year to do this same thing and it died because of the modifications needed, particularly because the different M 35 engines require different modifications. Do you have an idea on price and shipping? Will the supplier require the shipment to be made to one destination and then the individual units shipped out from there? Seems like the logistics, etc. could be a nightmare. I would like more info before I would be interested. Thanks for spearheading this project.

I might be interested, depending upon the price; of course I would need some idea of modifications on my MK II, M35. Thanks in advance.

Glenn, there is an article in one of the JibSheet magazines archived here on this site for full Association members to view. It has all the info.

If we don't loose anybody that has expressed an interest we have enough interest to order the pumps.

I have contacted Stu Jackson and asked him to talk it up over at the C34 group to see if anyone over there would be interested in the new pump.

I expect the price not to exceed $230 including shipping in the US. This is at least $30 less than Catalina Direct would cost with shipping. I plan on using USPS priortiy or express mail flat rate (whichever is the 2-3 day service and is less expensive).

I would appreciate an email (iamav@aol.com) confirming that you are still interested and prepared to put up your money to order the pump. When I called a couple weeks ago, parts were in stock to build the pumps and Oberdorfer was quoting a lead time of about 4-5 days. They will drop ship all the pumps to one location (mine) and I will repackage and ship ASAP to all buyers.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

That is very generous of you, Mark, to be making all that effort to benefit your fellow Association members. I hope you all enjoy much good life and easy servicing of the new pumps. My modification and install went very smoothly.

Money transfers for the pumps to Mark could be done quickly via Paypal without any additional expense from a bank account or with a credit card with a 2.9% fee.

I plan on buying another pump in the next few weeks for a spare. I would purchase one from Mark if this comes to fruition by then.

When I looked into OEM pricing ($208 each) last year the minimum purchase quantity was 25 units, which seems like a high threshold to get this started. Not to mention a bit of work for the individual re-mailing these pumps.

Marks price from a previous thread back in May, had a price quote, shipping included just under $230

I just got in to www.kscdirect.com/ price is still $208 for individual orders, plus shipping. Since I paid $260 last year for one of these pumps I consider $208 a pretty good deal.

Paypal is fine as long as it doesn't cost anything on my end. The whole purpose of this exercise is to save $$$$, not blow it by enriching Paypal or some bank.

Another option a lot of banks with online banking are offering is: bank allows you to put the funds in a virtual safe deposit box, then you tell them to send the key to my email or phone number, the bank emails or texts me with the key, I contact the bank with the key and have the funds transferred to my account.

Niles is correct about the threshold being high at 25. I managed to get the number lowered but even with that I am still waiting for most of the members that expressed an interest to confirm their interest and that funds are available. So far the work load hasn't been onerous, a few phone calls and emails with a little surfing tossed in.

I have priced the pumps delivered in the US at $230, Catalina Direct charges $260 plus shipping, this is a no brainer, probably a savings of $45-50. In speaking with Oberdorfer a couple of weeks ago, they indicated enough parts were available to build 10-15 pumps and they could ship them within 5-7 days after they got my payment. I have even decided, that if I get close enough, I'll buy a couple extras and put them on eBay or hold them and offer them to those that didn't move quickly enough at a slightly higher price. I am planning on using USPS EXPRESS/PRIORITY MAIL (2nd DAY) to get these out ASAP.

I am also considering, offering to do the M35B modification (the more complicated of the M35s) since that is what I have for a price. If you have an M35B and don't want to do the mods yourself, drop me a line and we can talk about that too.

I didn't get enough response from the C36 group (though they do seem to keep showing up) so I contacted the C34 group and am hoping to have enough orders confirmed and paid by the middle of July, perhaps sooner, its really up to you the members that have shown an interest in this project.

Mark will get clipped by Paypal a couple of percent. Better factor that in. Paypal charges the seller their fees. And don't even consider using them for currency exchange.

I have to correct my faulty memory, I bought my first Oberdorfer N202M-16 from Depco Pump two years ago for $225, including shipping, not $260 as I previously stated. My accountant wife pulled up the old VISA statement.

Jim

I just looked at Marine Engines Direct's page.

I didn't see the N202M-16 listed.

Where did you find it?

And Nile,

I checked the Depco website, no price listed for any pumps, though the N202M-16 is listed.

UPDATE: 7-1-13 per Jim @ Depco....N202M-16 is now 234.00 plus shipping.

I wrote Marine Engines an email to see if they carried the N202M-16 and I was surprised to get an email back on a Sunday that they have 5 in stock and that they are the same price as they list the N202M-15. He indicated that they will update their website tomorrow with this information. The person's name who responded is Henry Bramhall.

The whole purpose of this exercise was to save money.

$214.25 delivered sounds good to me except that they are in CA so that adds about $17 in taxes.

Sounds like the group purchase is unnecessary to me.
