New owner with spin halyard block question

Hi everyone,
New owner of a Cat 36 MkII (2002), very excited!

I have multiple questions but I find that while reading this forum and the associations site (already a member!) most are answered.

One that I cant figure out. I have a Charleston spar mast, with the mast head as shown in the pic. I cant figure out where to attached a block for the spin halyard. Is the aluminum plate with two round holes in the leading edge of the masthead (left in the pic) the crane?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks
-Abraham

You would certainly attach the spin halyard block to one of the two holes in that plate that is bolted to the masthead. This is an improved version of the tubular bail that is used on the older boats. You could have one on each side if you want!

This is a change from my 1999 masthead which used the more traditional ss rod crane.

Hey, Abraham. Welcome to C36 ownership and the Association.

I was very gratified by your comment that most of your questions have already been answered here in the forum. When new ones pop up, just post and we'll try to help.

I mounted the block for my spinnaker halyard with a Dyneema soft shackle to the hole on the port side of the masthead because my spinnaker halyard runs through a hole 2 feet from the mast head on the port side of the mast, down the mast, and back to the port side of the cockpit.

Also, I attach the spinnaker tack to the end of a Selden removable bowsprit which mounts on the port side of the head stay. My anchor roller is mounted on the starboard side.

Thank you so much everyone, I will be mounting the block on the hole on the the port side.

Marc thanks for the info, I've been thinking about a selden bowsprit too, though will probably use a tacker for this first season.
Thanks!!

Mine rests on the stbd side because I ran my halyard up inside the mast and it exited out the hole on stbd side of mast (about 2 ft below masthead)...
