knot meter and boom casting

I have two problems
1. knot meter will work some times and othe times will only show 3 lines on the bottom of the gauge. I sent this in for repair and was told that it works fine. I checked the transducer and show current to the gauge when I spin it. Then returned to the factory calabration on the unit and it worked for a day. tried to cal. again and it wouldn'd go to cal. Next day did factory cal and it worked for one more day . Now it doesn't work again and I have 3 lines. Has any body else had this problem.
2. The pin that goes into the boom, at the mast fitting, came out last night. I removed the casting from the end of the boom, taking out the 4 sheet metal screws, and with a long small metal object pounded it out. the casting where the pin enters it was distroyed down flush with the casting. It looks like the casting broken and any pins that hold the pin in have disapered. tilted the boom to find missing piece and had no luck. I called Catalina for a new casting and am waiting for an e-mail to see what to order. Any thoughts so this doesn't happen again.

I had a similar problem several years ago with my knotmeter. The unit would work when tested, then work for only a short time after the transducer was in the bottom. The problem was a small leak in the transducer which would short out after in the water. I replaced the transducer and no problems since.

My knotmeter worked sporatically for a season; I never knew if it would work or just quite and then start working again-sometimes hours apart or days apart. I finally replaced the transducer and spliced the new cable into the old one and it has been working fine for the last two years. As I recall the new transduce and attached cable costs $100.
