I hope to purchase a 3 bladed Kiwi Feathering Prop. I have owned one for 6yrs (on our previous C320 Catalina). I was pleased with the Thrust it offered in Reversing. I must Reverse into our Slip.
Kiwi F.Prop have recommended a 3 Bladed 16" unit. I thought the biggest we could use was 15".
Comments appreciated.

Bruce,
This is the prop I have on my boat, in most cases the tip to hull clearance dictates max diameter with rule of this distance should not be less than 10% of the prop diameter. This to avoid cavitation and hull vibration issues. I have experienced none of those issues with the installation and since you had this prop on your last boat you are aware of how smooth and vibration free this prop is.
As I have stated in other posts here, the only issue I have with the prop is it being over proped in reverse due to the reverse pitch stop design. It does offer huge thrust in reverse but, it is a challenge to keep the engine from stalling at idle when selecting reverse under way. It is ok static but, with forward speed it loads up more than my little M25XP can handle without bringing the rpm up first. I have adjusted to this and otherwise love the prop, it is quite likely that the higher tourqe at idle on you M35 engine can manage this issue.
I must appologize to John Blundel of Kiwi Props, he was very responsive on this issue and sent me a shorter set of blades at no charge even covered the air freight to me, to see if it corrected the issue, but have not hauled out since to install them. My thought was that since I was over proped in reverse with no means of adjusting reverse pitch and the blades are set at a very low pitch angle in forward, shorter blades could be used increasing the pitch in forward to make up for decreased diameter.

hello Bruce,
we have the 16" kiwiprop on our C36; no issues with cavitation or hull vibration nor do I consider we are over pitched in reverse although we have repowered with a 39hp Yanmar.

Kapitan,i dont mean to hi jack this thread, but i would love to see any photos or info re your yanmar installation. They usually dont fit very well in what seems to be a "Kubota" engine space.

Neville,
I think we would all like to hear about your Yanmar install, I am a big fan of those engines. Having a whopping 23 horse power to try and control on my boat the question I would have is: how many skiers can you get up at once with your engine?
As for the Kiwi prop, Bruce I am certain it will would do fine on your boat, it is near perfect on mine I just need a bit more umph and you already have it.
Give John Blundell a call at Kiwi Propeller, he is very open and may have suggestions or be willing to tweek the prop a bit for us. He is in New Zealand so you need to consider the time difference, it is GMT + 12. I Know that John is on vacation next week as I talked to him yesterday, He makes a great product and is very open and supports what he makes.

Cavitation Question re Hull shape on MkI vs MkII.
Think they are the same .... therefore if 16" KiwiProp works on MkI it will be the same on MkII?
Thanks

Bruce,
Yes, that's correct. Below the waterline, the MkI and MkII are the same.

For those who have expressed interest I will go take some pics and start a new thread (sometime soon) covering the Yanmar install in our C36.....
Steve, haven't managed to get a single skier up but reverse thrust is great!
