In Speaking with my friend Lance aboard Lanida he heard that in changing your water pump belt you have to take off the hoses. So after the first change he tie wrapped a spare belt in place so that if he had to make a change at sea he would not have to dismantle the hoses..:) We are at NEB in Portsmouth RI

Good ideas just keep coming back. The water pump drive belt on my 1976 Triumph TR6 passed around a suspension cross brace. The owners manual suggested doing the same thing. . . .
Niether the Yanmar diesel on my previous boat, or my Mazda Miata had this issue. Draw what conclusions you may.

My PO had done the same thing. I don't know how old the spare belt was, but I was always a little leary of it aging prematurely being next to the hot engine all the time. When it came time to use it, I inspected it carefully and decided it looked fine.
