Exhaust system FIXED w/new thermal jacket

Hello 36'ers
Here is a look at the exhaust pipe ready to install with the new thermal jacket securely fastened to the pipe. I will have pics of the completed project first part of the week.

Just completed the same project,  It was very straight forward. Still, lessons were learned.  :)

1. Try to be careful how much anti-seize that you put on.  I was a little too generous and where it seemed to be fine at the dock.  When I took it up to the boat yard for a bottom job, it smoked A LOT!  As in you could see smoke all in the aft and main cabin.  The harder I ran the engine, the more it smoked.  20 knots on the nose, you get how fun this was.  :)

2. For the Mark II, order the circular exhaust flange, gasket and v-clamp when you get your riser from Catalina Direct.  It will save you time.  Unless you have a workshop with a heavy vise, torches and such, just spend the $90.  Not doing some pushed a simple job to the next weekend.

Note, on the return trip from the boat yard, no smoke at all.  No matter how hard I pushed the engine.

Catalina Direct is a simply awesome resource and we're lucky to have them.

I'm assuming the exhaust riser is the foil wrapped pipe behind the engine's exhaust manifold.?
What is the expected life of our exhaust riser on a Universal 35B?
What is the purpose of the exhaust riser?
My 2003 C36 has the original exhaust riser at 1200 engine hours....., time to replace?
Do you access the removal and replacement from behind the engine bulkhead, ie, from the rear bunk?
Is it a big job?

Thanks

Steven;
I received a riser last week for my 1999 with just over 1000 hrs.  Even though it's not leaking yet, it is showing rust around the welds at the base of the small pipe where the water mixes before entering the muffler...  (that is where it usually fails).
I am keeping it on the boat and will replace in the fall after the season, (hopefully won't need to until then).
BTW - Catalina Direct needed a 6 week lead time to have the part built for them...
