Engine Intake Hose

As usual the saga of winter repairs takes you in new directions.
While winterizing the engine I noticed my water intake hose (thruhole to strainer) had cracks and needed replacement.  While I was able to remove it from the thruhole I had no such luck from the strainer.  Had to remove the strainer.  In order to remove the strainer unit you have to remove the center water tank.  Oh well.  I'm getting sidetracked.
The hose appears to be 1" ID wire reinforced.  My usual suppliers (Defender and WM) offer what they call engine water intake hoses polyester reinforced in this size but wire reinforced which they recommend for exhaust start with 1 5/8".
I guess the question is what hose does this learned group recommend for this application and where to get it.

Enrique,
Since water is being sucked up from outside by the impeller - there is a negative pressure inside that hose, from the through-hull valve to the strainer. It must contain the metal helix wire spring inside the hose, otherwise it may collapse and stop the water from entering the strainer.
I use wire enforced hoses everywhere on the vessel.
