So I have had two separate positive (red) wires feeding current to my multi-display and another to the pilot computer fail this week. Is there a ”vintage” problem to my 1998 MK2 36 wiring and or electrical systems that I don’t know about?

What do you mean by fail?

Non tinned wire goes black in a couple seasons unless sealed. Personally I’d cut off the connector rub the Black off and try a new connector before pulling new wire.

You can also, after cutting back as Leslie suggests, use a proper rosin core solder to tin the end of the wire then re-terminate to prevent further oxidation issues. The flux will help clean the wire further and the solder seals the copper from the atmosphere. Any time you replace wire though, do make sure you're using the appropriate marine grade wire. Also verify your wire sizing is correct, by modern standards and with the addition of owner installed components we found much of our original wiring to be undersized.
