With our season coming to an end in the midwest I'm preparing to change fluids. Each year I struggle to read the transmission fluid level on the gray aluminum dipstick with new fluid. There was a recent post that mentioned a method to improve its visability but darned if my searches can find it. Does anyone recall that post or have recomendations?

I think it was someting like wiping the dipstick shaft clean and then wrapping some paper around it or fastening a sliver of wood. Be sure to secure the paper/wood so it doesn't slide off into the transmission.

Clean the dip stick, then re-insert in to the transmission. Take out the dip stick and lay it on a paper towel. The wetted paper towel should show you exactly where the oil level is.
Note; be sure you read how to read the instructions on where the dip stick should be placed when reading the level, as some manufacturers want you to insert the stick only to the bottom of the nut.
