I would like to use a CQR 35lb anchor instead of the Bruce on our C36 MkII. However the knuckle part of the anchor is too wide to fit into the anchor roller. Does anybody have any tips how to resolve this? Thanks.

How wide is your roller? I have a 35 CQR of my mk II. I do have to lift it into place. I can measure mine this weekend if that would help?

The roller width is just over 2 1/2". The knuckle is about 2 7/8".
We also have a cqr and it fits fine, although snug.
Maybe you can bend the flukes' a little outward?

I also have no problem on my 1999 Mark II. I've had the CQR on it since new and never noticed an issue.

Somewhere I read about fake CQR anchors, or maybe not all CQR's are made alike? I will try and measure my roller and anchor this weekend.

Is it a genuine Bruce? Are you interested in selling it when you switch to the CQR?

Thanks for all the replies. I hadn't thought about a fake CQR so I did some checking.
I looked at Lewmar LEW0056506 dimensions. Dimension 'C' is 3" which matches mine. So I think it is probably genuine.
I looked at an anchor roller from Catalina Direct Z2968. It looks exactly like mine, and the outside width is shown as 3". The inside width is not shown, but on mine is just over 2 1/2" which is consistent.
So have the rollers changed over the years?? Were they wider on earlier models? Mine is 2006.
Thanks for the help anyways.
David, sorry to butt in here. But speaking from personal experience with a number of them, a Bruce is NOT the anchor for the Pacific Northwest. PM me for my phone number and I'd be glad to tell you of my multiple Bruce problems throughout the San Juans.

I checked my boat today. My CQR and roller measure the same as yours! The knuckle rides on the top of the SS bracket. I do have to lift it into place. As far as I know this CQR and roller set up has been on the boat since new. see pics

Thank you Chuck. The photos resolved the problem for me. Biggest issue was the two hoops on the front which were creating most of the interference. Once I removed them the anchor sits nicely on the roller and is relatively easy to handle. Tested it yesterday.
Sorry to change topic and hijack the thread, but I have to ask...
Curious about the cable on your anchor Chuck - I assume you're running an anchor marking float...
I've been thinking of doing this; but am worried about the line fouling with the chain...
How is yours rigged and how has it worked?

The PO made up a cable to rope line that help keep the anchor in place. The line is held fast on the anchor locker cleat.
I too have thinking about how to do the float thing myself. I seen it done but not up close.

I think it is kind of overkill to just keep the anchor from coming lose. I have a chain hook with a length of 1/4 inch line which leads back to the aft cleat in the locker. Everything is out of sight and easy to use. The anchor is going nowhere until I unhook it.

I was kind of thinking the same think about the anchor going nowhere and a bit of over kill. This weekend i used the line to lift the anchor off the roller and let it hang. I have a rode only windless so I need a safe way to deploy the anchor. I just cleated the line off until I was ready to drop. It worked good.
So far it working well. Everyone does things a little different.
