Can anyone advise me the method to remove the furling screw in the Charleston Furling Mast on my 2005 Mk11.

I actually want to seal the mast under the furling mechanism to try and reduce water ingress as suggested in the forum a short time back.

The Instruction Manual is rather vague.

There are 2 Phillips head screws on the side of the mast above and below the furling mechanism but I cant see anything else to undo. I guess I have to remove the mainsail but do I have to remove the in mast furling rod etc and if so how?
It would be the same process if I was replacing the furling line.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
