Just purchased a 1983 C36. I have scraped around and can not find any set screws in the strut for the cutlass bearing? It it possible the earlier 36's did not have set screws? Sure could use some sage advice before I try forcing the old one out....Thanks

I'm not sure I've been an owner long enough to be considered "sage" (got my boat only in November), but I replaced the cutlass bearing last month, so I'm at least somewhat experienced now!
So I can report that on my early C36 there were no set screws in the strut, either (I scraped around first as well).
If you aren't aware of it, the C36IA has a fab loaner tool that made this job very easy to do without removing the prop shaft.

Thanks for the info...received an e-mail today and the loaner tool is on the way...ready to get her in the water....

I have an 1984 MKI and I did have set screws in the strut, they came right out. If you have the holes, in the strut, just get some SS ones from West Marine they have all kinds of sizes in stock
