Best Anchor Roller For Rocna 20 (44lb)?

Hi, everyone.

Along with the Maxwell RC8-8 windlass (other thread), I am installing a new stem fitting from Catalina and a new anchor roller for my Rocna 20 (44lb).  What is the best anchor roller for the Rocna 20?

The Maxwell windlass manual says that it needs to be self-launching. Is that possible?

It is not easy to find definitive information on this subject, and is it not something I can easily tinker around with - drilling several holes in the bow and such - until I find a good combination.

Ben, many of us have found that the old "toy" bow rollers work very well with our Rocna anchors.  I have a Rocna 10, a friend who sailed to Mexico from Vancouver, BC, has a 15.  Your 20 is very big.

Anchor Selection 101  includes good discussions of various system selections and pictures of new generation anchors on bowsprits both short and extended http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,4457.0.html

Thanks, Stu.

Obviously, I can't use the toy rollers as they were welded to the original MK1 stem fitting. However, it's good to know that a shorter anchor roller will work well with the Rocna.  The longer rollers (like the ones recommended on catalinadirect.com) bend too easily in a storm (per Fatty Goodlander's book "Creative Anchoring").

Also, per Fatty's book and also Beth Leonard's "The Voyagers Handbook", I always go with one size anchor larger than is manufacturer-recommended.  Just my philosophy now.

Stu, where are you seeing "Anchor Selection 101"?  I'm not finding it in our tech articles or googling it.
