I have been looking to purchase a belt tensioner device to tension the alternator belt. I had heard about this device (which operates on the principle of a turnbuckle by pushing the pulleys away from one another), but some of the suggestions on this board and other boards no longer sell the product (because, I suspect, the tool is not in demand much for automobiles).
But, I located the tool, and want to provide the source for other members.
It's called a "belt tension jack"

Good on you Nelson for providing that info. I bought one of those two years ago and don't know how I got along without it before. Its now essential to my belt tensioning and I use it one a month. I recommend every one get one.

Great info Nelson, thanks.
I live in Australia and have looked online for the product, but no luck.
MSC direct does not deliver to Aus.
I wonder if anyone can assist in locating that tool or similar that i can but in Aus.
cheers

Perhaps because its called something else in Australia (as is often the case between US and Aussie names for the same tool)?
As a young man back in the 70s vagabonding around the world and running low on cash, I sweet-talked my way into a temporary mechanic's job for a few weeks in a somewhat disreputable gas (i.e. "petrol") station in the Northern Territory. I got some utterly confused looks every time I went off to try to borrow (i.e, "bludge") a tool from the other mechanics, who didn't seem to have a clue what I was talking about!
