I purchased a 2003 36 mkII in the spring and this is my first "large" boat.
My alternator needs replacement and I am pretty sure it is the original. I don't want to modify now, I just want to replace with a new alternator by end of week. The Universal part (# 041017) is discontinued at every site I could find online. The closest Prestolite-Leece Neville 51 amp I can find online (110-686) has a depth of 7" and I measure 6.5" on my current alternator. There is very little room behind the alternator so I am hesitant to purchase it.
Does anyone have a part number for a replacement alternator?
Thanks for your help!

Jeff, I recently replaced our original alternator with an ARCO #60050, a 55 amp alternator. It was a perfect fit. The only challenge was removing the lower bracket. The holding bolt was frozen. Had to heat it up a bit.

Jeff,
I upgraded my alternator and I have the original from my 2004 boat. Let me know if you want my old one.

Thanks for your help! 55 amp replacement is going in on Thursday.
Greg: great post on your 140A upgrade. Looks like a good winter project.

You might want to get your old one rebuilt? Keep it for a spare. Sometimes it only the diodes. Can be cheap if you find a good shop. The farther from the water, the cheaper it gets.
