loose foot or bolt rope?

I'm ordering a new mainsail from Doyle, & they are recommending a loose foot as opposed to bolt rope. All my sailing is in southern California coastal cruising.
Also they are recommending 7oz sail cloth, is this to light? Or just right?

Just wondering what most of you have on your boats, & what you recommend.

Thanx, Todd

On my last sailboat I changed to loose foot. You can get much better sail trim with loose foot. My C36 currently has bolt rope and as soon as I am ready I will switch to loose foot.

I went with a loose foot/partial batten main when I replaced the factory sail. It seems to me that I have much more draft control and position placement than with the bolt rope foot/full batten main.
