If you are considering a new headsail..

Go for the 150% that Catalina offers in Mainsheet for a reduced price. I got mine last week and installed it this morning. Perfect fit on my Harken furler. I wanted to get it on the boat Friday before the race but didn't get out of the house soon enough so I raced with my old 135%.

The Navy UV strip matched the rest of my canvas perfectly. I'm pretty sure the luff tape is standard.
What did Sailcare charge for reconditioning your sail? I am trying to figure out what to do with the current 135. Recondition and save or sell? It is in decent shape, just needs a little attention to make it pretty again.

Actually, what I'm looking for is more like a 90-110%. I have a 135% but it's too big for SF Bay summer days.

I was thinking about Sail-Care this winter for my 150. However, their price list indicates a little over $500 plus repairs and return shipping. The sail is 10 yoa and could use it. Time to hit the change jar.

I sent my 150 genny to Sail Care and just received the estimate for repairs - $1300. The big issue is a new sunbrella sunband, they want $696, just for that. I am between the proverbial rock and hardplace. Should I just invest $1300 in a new sail? It seems like alot of money for a temporary fix. I cannot find the add for the genoa in Mainsheet, that was mentioned previously, anyone have more info.

Thanks

Tom, I don't think the ad is in Mainsheet any longer.

$1300 to refurbish the sail sounds high to me.

Tom, I would have to agree with Bill here on that price. That seems a little steep. I have consulted with and have purchased Sailrite products over the years and I can tell you that they are the real deal. They take no shortcuts and will offer you ways in which you can save money.

Bill, do you still have your 135?

I purchased a used main and had it refurbed, I think it was an old main off of Bills (wfahey's) boat Lucky, before he bought it as I recall.
In hind sight I would not spend 50% of the cost of a new sail on repair or purchase of a used one. In hind sight I wish I had saved my jeckles and purchased a new sail.

The Sail Warehouse sells a brand new 135 for about $2200. The economy is still not that robust right now and sail lofts are hungry this time of year, I bet you could find a new sail for 2K or less, you can repair yours but the fabric will still be the same age as when you sent it in for repair.

I do. It is all rolled up and in the sailbag the 150 came in. Has a Navy Blue UV strip. I also have another headsail but must confess to not knowing the size of it. It is much lighter that the 135 so it may be a 100. If this rain ever stops, I will pull it out of the bag and measure it.
