Doesn't look like much in this pic, and in reality I don't know if this is any bigger than a tall rig main, but if size matters then I think this is the biggest main ever mounted on a standard rig Catalina 36. Racing next Sunday.
For reference, the mid girth on my OEM main was 7 feet even, this one is 9'. The foot measurement is 14.1. I figure about 60 sq foot difference vs the OEM sail.
Between this main and my penalty spinnakers, I end up at 149. We are a light air region and the base rating here is slower than some places I have seen at 158. We win a lot in less than 4 knots of breeze and more than 10, the mainsail is an attempt to bridge that gap as really most days here it blows 6-8.
Wow, I had to file an appeal to get my base from 135 to 141. Currently I race with a 145. I get +3 for cruising accomadations,+4 for a 140 headsail,-3 for oversized kite.
Do you guys ever race upwind anywhere? I only see pics of GD going downwind with that Whomper up!

Some of my Yacht Club friends tried racing upwind once and could barely keep the olives in their martinis. That was the last time for that nonsense!

I think base for a tall rig here is around 142.
