An unfortunate accident due to an unexpected wave during a race to Farallon Island claims one life and 4 are missing. 3 are saved.

A riveting read, my Internet was down at work today and I missed this L38 issue. Thanks for linking this. No doubt racers cut this rock a bit closer than I would have but, not irresponsibly by this report.

Proof that the grace of god keeps us from fates like these on most excursions at sea, a rouge wave in the open ocean could get any of us surfing through the pearly gates. Understanding this and worshiping each adventure survived is the reward of the journey.

Weigh your risks to enjoy the greatest number of journeys.
Sitting on the couch will kill you with few rewards.

The writer includes this beautiful quote from a John F Kennedy speech...

“I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it is because in addition to the fact that the sea changes and the light changes, and ships change, it is because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch it we are going back from whence we came.”
