The Oregon Offshore will start on Thursday morning, May 10, 2012 and finish no later than 10 AM on Sunday, May 13, 2012. Here's a link to the race, which runs annually from a buoy seaward of the entrance to the Columbia River, Astoria, Oregon to a finish at the entrance to Victoria, BC Canada. The Oregon OFfshore has never been cancelled due to weather.

Besides racing this for the fun of it, the race positions your boat at an ideal spot to compete in the annual Swiftsure Race(s) and, in every second year, the Vic-Maui Race and VanIsle 360 Race. The VanIsle 360 circumnavigates Vancouver Island, and is apparently an outrageous navigators' challenge. Vancouver Island is about 300 miles long.
Portland Yacht Club is hosting its "Heading North" seminar Saturday AM, April 7, 0900 to 1200. Three guest speakers will present voyage tips for this race/route, which will also help powerboaters intending a northern cruise this summer, as well.

The Oregon Offshore Race started at 1400 yesterday afternoon (Thursday May 10, 2012). The race start was delayed because the Coast Guard closed the Columbia River Bar, initially for vessels 50 ft LOA and under. The Bar was too dangerous. Thus the late start, but they're underway now, on their way to the finish line at the harbor (harbour) entrance to Victoria, BC Canada. The race blog is...

On the left side of the blog page is a link to a map of vessel positions. All vessels are carring Spot trackers. It's interesting that you can see each vessel's present location, speed and direction, and also compare tracks one vessel to another. (Waiola is under motor, so her apparent leading position is not valid.)
Unfortunately there is no C36 in the race this year. Eric Rouzee, C36 skipper and Oregon Offshore multi-race veteran, is working the race committee this time, I believe. Bravo, Eric!
