Deck layouts

I think its safe to say that the stock C36 deck hardware layout is not too conducive to racing. Anyone got pictures of the changes they have made to make the boat more competitive?

I posted pics of my double-ended, led-aft mainsheet system on the Technical forum a few weeks ago. I am currently working on finishing up the spinnaker halyard layout etc. One issue is that my 1983 boat has the handrails mounted further inboard on the cabintop than the later boats, so there is not much room to lead halyards and control lines aft. Also the original configuration is just 2 halyards, each led to a winch mounted on the mast.

Currently thinking main and genoa halyards to a winch on the port side of the mast, spin halyard and pole lift led to cockpit on starboard side. Foreguy led aft on both sides of the cabintop (double ended).

I have also added the turnbuckle from the mast to the deck inside the boat to help deal with the loads from turning halyards at the mast base.

I sent you an email offering to help you turn your incomplete Forum posting on the deck hardware topic into an article that would "forever" be accessable on the C36IA's Technical - Upgrades section. In the email, I asked that you provide photos and additional information of the final installation, as your posting - if I recall correctly - said that a couple items still remained to be done. I received no response from you.

The changes you made to your boat are interesting and laudable. Why not help the C36IA out be offering an article on this topic that we could have in our library?

Happy to do that - will have to take a couple more pics as the system is now finished. I didn't get your email - will hunt around for it. I'll try to get it all together this week.

Thank you very much. I think you have a great topic, and a nicely executed upgrade!

Article submissions can be emailed to me at LCBrandt(at)coastpilot(dot)com in Word format showing photo placement, BUT please send high resolution photos to me as jpeg attachments. I need higher resolution photos because I will Photoshop them for cropping, contrast, etc, and then use Photoshop to get them to a web-friendly file size. Also, having the photos in original resolution allows us to re-use them, if we feel it might be appropriate, in the JibSheet and, possibly, even the Mainsheet. I may do some light editing, typically for web page positioning, clarification, spelling and/or grammar...but of course, you have the right to correct my corrections.

I really appreciate your contribution. We try to keep the home page fresh with frequent new stuff, but occasionally (as currently) we experience a drought. Seems to be feast or famine.

I hope all of us C36ers appreciate the tireless efforts of Larry, Steve, and others to make our collective knowledge such a treasure.

Thanks, Larry!

Here is my solution to rigging the spin sheets. One side of the padeye uses the existing center bolt on the cheek block. The other side I drilled and used a machine screw and nylock-nut. You just have to be sure the nut isn't in the path of the Genoa sheet.

Finally something the mk 1 does better than the II - our spin sheets can just go on the toe rail track which extends right to the back of the boat.

I use a fiddle block where my mainsheet goes to the secondary winch, the kite sheet just goes through the lower sheave on this block, top right of the attached pic (and to the same winch). Also if I need to do a spinnaker peel, I can pop the mainsheet out of the upper sheave (with the clutch closed) and put a changing sheet through there. Simple.

Anyone tried punching holes through the traveller support to lead halyards through, or is everyone leading them outside around the ends of the traveller?
