25th Plastic Classic

Just a heads up for you San Francisco Bay sailors, the Silver Anniversary of the Bay View Boat Club Plastic Classic will be held on July 18th this year.

The Catalina 36 made the cut a couple years ago, the requirment is that the boat be plastic and designed over twenty five years ago. The race it self is a low key fun event held in the south bay with a start about due east of the Ball Park and the BVBC. There is quite an eclectic mix of boats involved. I hope we can muster enough C36's for our own start, the requirment is five boats. I run in the non spinaker group as one, I have no spinaker and secondly sail changes are to much work for this race that is done for fun. It is a most ireverent event, protests are discouraged unless someone pulls a knife or gun on you. The T mark is not suited for all audiences, this mark in the early days was staffed by Carrol Dota and freinds, some of her freinds still man(woman) the mark and it can be pretty scary.

The awards ceremony and party after are always a great time. This is a boat club not a yacht club, do not bother to bring your pretenses. The water is pretty thin next to the club and there is only space for about four boats. You can anchor in front of the old railroad pier and there is dingy service available, a note of caution the later it gets the dingier the service.
I usually get a slip at South Beach and walk to the BVBC, it is about a 15 minute walk around the ball park to South Beach harbor. This walk is sobering after the event.

You can get an on line entry form a the Bay View Boat Club web site.
