I would have to think that it would simply be a matter of comparing the benefits between the two programs versus the cost. Also, which has the more active fleet in your area (in San Diego, the answer is probably "both"). Personally, I have been a Vessel Assist member for the past 28 years. I've never had a problem at sea to be able to judge their service (knock wood), but I would consider either to be cheap insurance.

I have to admit that I have not put a lot of thought into this but would ask an additional question. As my insurance pays for towing, why would I need an assist servive?
