Where to find tech article on replacing opening portlights?

Hi folks, I've been scouring the website and I'm unable to find a definitive article with step by step instructions on replacing the opening port lights on my 1999 MkII.  I have purchased 4 new windows and plan to re-bed with butyl tape.  Doesn't seem that difficult of a job but I would love to read about it before I crack into it.  Chick Lasser had mentioned that he had written an article for Mainsheet on just this topic, but after searching through the 6 most recent editions, a Ctrl F search yielded no results.  Hoping someone can guide me to an article with step by step instructions and lessons learned.

Thanks!

Mike

Mike:

This is a job that I did last year.

The process is really simple.
1. Remove the existing window. This may require a little effort and a scraper or flat tool to help separate the old window from its opening. In my case they needed very little effort to remove.

2. Clean the area where the butyl tape will seal. It really is critical that the surface is clean and has no residue from the previous window. Acetone did a good job for me. When doing the job I used heavy duty chemical resistant gloves. Acetone is not good for you if absorbed through the skin.

3. Dry fit and make sure you have the reassembly steps clear.

4. Put a single layer of butyl tape all the way around the frame of the window.

5.  Install the window. Tighten screws evenly (you may need some of the long screws from the old window)

6 Remove excess Butyl tape around the outside (if needed)

Admire your work!
