West Marine Policy Change

FYI – Even though I have Port Supply pricing available through my CG Auxiliary membership, I have found that Internet prices have almost always beat that price. For years, I would bring a printout with the best Internet price and WM would match it.

I just tried that today and was told that as of March 2013, they only honor prices for physical stores within 50 miles. I am not saying I blame them for the change, but you should be aware of it.

Duane, I guess my attitude is why should I bring the competitor's price to them when the competitor was already giving me the better deal. Why do I need to show WM their competitor's price to get them in line? I just place my order with the competitor and move on. Let WM figure it out.
I was a professional manager of buying and subcontracting in my former life and one of many lessons I learned is that you don't always get what you pay for, you often get much less and the low bidder often knows how to run his business more efficiently and sell for less while giving better value for the money spent.

Because sometimes -- not often, but sometimes -- you need something expensive TODAY.

David and Sam,

David beat me to the punch. While I don't like WM particularly, there has to be some retail brick and mortar marine supply store nearby. Since WM is pretty much the only one like that in most areas, I do want them to survive for that reason alone.

When I can afford to wait for mail-order, I patronize those online stores offering good prices and service.
