Ultrasonic Bird Preventers

Anyone ever use one of those devices that emit untrasonic sounds waves to deter birds? Do they work?

I imagine the method as this photo shows would prove more effective.

Larry,

Not sure you answered the question, does it work on ultrasonic birds?

www.BoatUS.com has a good collection of anti-bird devices.

No guarantee that ANY of them work, though

It's one more reason to get on your boat, stay on your boat, and keep on travelin'. Birds just love unoccupied boats...;)

I would think that ultrasonic bird preventers are about as effective as those tiny ultrasonic whistles some folks install on the front of their car to prevent collisions with deer. Or about as effective as ultrasonic insect repellent, which I have seen on the hardware store shelves.

In other words - except for excellent results I have experienced with an ultrasonic toothbrush - the limit of my confidence in ultrasonic products is extremely low.

Besides, wouldn't you be driving dogs crazy in the marina? All that barking!

I dunno Stu; I was onboard, anchored in a nice quiet anchorage when I suddenly felt like I was on the set of Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds". The attached out of focus pic doesn't capture half of them. They were hanging sideways from the VHF antenna, spinning merrily on the Windex and doing their best to destroy my wind instrument sensors.

Sound does work; at least the sound of a winch handle being banged repeatedly on the mast every few minutes. They then flew off to terrorize the nearby marina.

I'm very nice to birds, we even have several feeders in the yard. So I really don't know why they like to pick on me. A couple years ago, I was returning from a weekend cruise; someone on the dock says "boy you're gonna hate it when you see your car..!" When I got to the parking lot my nice black RX7 was covered with bird crap; BIG Pterodactyl sized bird crap. It looked like someone had been throwing handfuls of of white ice cream all over it. But the strange thing is that no other car in the lot had ANY on it. No wires above my car, no trees. Very bizarre. I may have to re-think those bird feeders.......:) they seem to have it in for me.

The ultrasonic rat preventer works pretty well. I lived in a farmhouse that was riddled with rats and mice; couple of those in the attic made a big difference.

FWIW,
