Top Side Lewmar Hatch Removal

Thank you to all who have sent me great information about replacing the Lexan in my opening top side, Lewmar hatches. I was all excited to do it, but I can't get the hinge pins out, so it's been postponed until early spring. I spoke with someone who told me that I might have to remove the entire hatch assembly which is screwed in. Has anyone done this? just want to know if they used anything as strong as 5200, or if I should actually just try to replace the Lexan acrylic wth the hatches still in place on the boat in the spring. Thanks so much,
Rich.

Rich-
I haven't had the need to perform hatch work on our C36, but suspect it has the same construction used on our C30. I found the hatches with frames were easily removed. They were bedded with what appeared to be boat life caulk (polysulfide caulk). Removal was accomplished by inserting a putty knife blade between the frame and deck. Start in a corner and gently lift the hatch frame.  Use a couple  putty knives and/or broad screw driver blades to gain leverage. The hatch will pop out. For reinstallation, be sure to thoroughly clean all caulk (or tape) from both frame and deck.I prefer to use polysulfide caulk but others like butyl tape. In the past, when I removed hatches or port lights, I cleaned the wood/laminate surfaces and sealed with epoxy as added insurance against moisture entering the core.
