San Francisco Plastic Classic

This should go in the Racing section forum but, many of you cruisers and day sailors may not view those posts so I am placing this notice here.

For the last four years I have been trying to get Fleet 9 involved in the Bay View Boat Clubs annual PLASTIC CLASSIC. This is the only race I do all year, it is a ball and very low key. Several years it has conflicted with Fleet 9's Ball Park cruise, this year the PC is a week later on July 16th.

The race it self is held in the south bay, the start is just south east about .5 miles from Pack Bell park, it typiclly runs from the start line to just off of the BVBC club house around the T mark (this is often an PG rated mark), south about a mile, to a channel marker, east to 2 NAS off of Alameda, back to T, back to 2 NAS and finish at T. About six miles as I recall. The race is fun, no one takes it too seriously, protest are not heard if you are not in the top three and then it better be a really good strory. The start for our division would likely be around 2 PM, the wind is usually light to moderate at the start and will be howling by the finish. I run in a non spinakar division because one I do not have a spinikar and two no one wants to run around on the fordeck that much in this race it limits your time looking at other goofballs and requires you to put you beer down to often.

The awards party is something to behold as is the party after, there is no dress code, the place is relaxed enough you may not need to be dressed at all.

The club has little dock space and the water is very thin at their dock. Many participants anchor in front of the pier that is in front of the club, dingy service is avialable to get you to the club ( the later it gets the dingyer the service) I ususally get a slip at south beach and walk the mile to the BVBC.

Hope to get a few more of our SF Bay C36's out there for this event.
