Sail Age

I’m going on 23 years with the same sails. Ulman Offshore. What are others average sail age before replacing?  Hoping to get a few more years out of them. They are starting to feel soft.  Can still point effectively at about 40 degrees apparent wind.

AC boats will replace after one day of use
Hard Core racers yearly or as soon as the class allows
Not so hard core half as fast as hard core
Hard core cruisers 5-10 yrs or when blown to shreads
normal cruisers 15-20 yrs
boats with children still in school - it’s a dream to be able to get new used sails

also the cost of the sails goes up with the frequency of changing them

Sails that get nicely flaked or folded and rolled last longer than those stuffed in a bag wet with no attention to creases

you might get a bit more time out of them if you have them recut.  I’ve found it’s easier to sail with fresh sails. Not as much heeling or weather helm

Only owned the boat for 5 years, but we take care of them, and resting when necessary. Hoping to get a few more years out of them.
